Work the Hands: An indy show review blog

Hey, I just started a new blog devoted to reviewing whole indy shows. Just finished PWG All Star Weekend 11 and am going to work my way through Lemmy and Bowie before I start on Evolve. Do you like words? There are some words.

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

I am so excited by the Omega angle I am going to fantasy book like a nerd: - Omega beats Nakamura for the IC Title and "sweeps" him out of New Japan. Obviously this establishes him as the best leader of the Bullet Club, as he does what AJ just tried and failed to do, beat Nakamura for the IC Title. ...

Re: Let's bury the World Wrestling Federation....

After hearing so many rants against wrestling fan negativity on VOW podcasts, it was pretty funny to see the VOW twitter feed bitching up a storm while 95% of people online were being won over by the main event. Reigns is to Joe as Tanahashi is to some others. Joe just needs to start obsessing about...

Re: PWG 2015

The January 2nd card is out, and this will NOT be where Zack Sabre Jr. takes his title shot... PWG WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: Roderick Strong (c) vs. Chris Hero Akira Tozawa vs. Zack Sabre Jr. Adam Cole vs. Mike Bailey Drew Galloway vs. Jack Evans Sami Callihan vs. Trevor Lee Drew Gulak vs. Timothy ...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Kris Zellner brought up CTE on Twitter and the idea of that makes me even more uncomfortable. Don't get me wrong, if Honma has brain damage from bumps he's taken, he's still responsible for his actions, but here's another guy that's taken a lot of head bumps, who is flying into dangerous, violent er...

Re: Let's bury the World Wrestling Federation....

People will focus on the Roman Reigns booking, and it was bad, but the other story is how dead this crowd was for almost everything. Undertaker was by far the most over guy on the show, and other than New Day, Owens, Ambrose and Reigns, the crowd gave no fucks about anybody else, and quite frankly t...

Re: Promotion of the Year

The PWG question is an interesting one. Can a company that runs ten shows a year to an audience of a few hundred people (And however many people buy the DVDs) be the best wrestling promotion in the world? If you define the promotion of the year as the promotion that best meets and fulfills their goa...

Apparently the only wrestling venue Rob Bihari HASN'T been to is ECW Arena. Jesus Christ.

Re: PWG 2015

The great thing about PWG right now is that they sell out within minutes whether they have a card or not. They could run Mystery Vortex shows for every card in the foreseeable future if they wanted to, which means that they could run any kind of huge un-advertised surprise they want and not have to ...

Re: Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. (WCW 10/26/97)

The DDT spot that starts around 4:48 in the video still may be my favorite single spot in wrestling history. There's been crazier sequences, but I don't know if I've ever seen something that difficult executed that buttery smooth. I've watched it 100 times.

Re: F4W/Observer-Is it still worth paying for?

I think there's a real problem with giving money to F4W/WON when one looks at the website for the Torch. Content wise both sites are similar, with the only real edge WON has being that they have Dave. But, just from a pure presentation and layout standpoint the Torch looks and runs like a website w...

Re: The Official All Encompassing Johnny Gargano Thread

He always works hard, he has a bunch of innovative offense, his matches are pretty much all action, but Gargano matches usually leave me cold. There's so many of them where I feel like there's not much but moves, and I kind of end up just spacing out. It's weird, because I can enjoy a big action pac...

Joe, you gotta do the Chikara book still. Even if sources are going dark, you still have to have a bunch of research already, right? Don't let Quack bury this next to the corpse of DJ Skittlez.

Re: PWG 2015

I thought Pentagon Jr vs. Zach Sabre Jr. was a very good, but not great match, that was elevated by a very special crowd. No other match that weekend got that kind of reaction, they were so into the idea of those two wrestling. Plus it was fun to see Pentagon Jr. completely change it up and pull out...

Re: Crowd Sourcing: Workrate Article

I always assumed that the term workrate was the product of it's era. In the 1980s you had wrestlers working death schedules. You also had a higher percentage of wrestlers who didn't grow up as wrestling fans and felt like the job of a wrestler was to do as little as you could get away with physicall...
