Strong shot of this making my Top 100. Finished #5 on my MOTY ballot last year (how great was Ishii's 2014? Jeez.) and with the exception of his two Nakamura matches, this is probably my favorite Ibushi performance ever. He's on another level here. This somehow got overlooked in the grand scheme of things last year, probably because Back to Yokohoma wasn't a great show and this suffered from that. Love this match.

Ibushi winning a strike exchange against Ishii is just comically bad, and him having some of the weakest elbows in Japan makes it even worse. It's a spot that needs to just stop being used as the starting point to Ishii's matches, especially now as he works from the top, because he looks weak because of them. How about laughing 'em off and slapping him down, instead of pretending to channel through pain and slap him down? Quite honestly, too, I'd much rather watch Kushida than Ibushi in singles. At least Kushida is more fluid in his spots and doesn't sell like a baboon that's had its balls kicked in. He also doesn't seem to botch moves to the extent Ibushi does. Ibushi almost breaks his neck taking a powerbomb off the turnbuckle, but he's in immediate control after.

Flat finish and typical NJPW "epic-wannabe" finishing run could have been mitigated with an entertaining middle portion but even that was hampered by Ishii letting Kota get way too much offence in. If I have to see Kota pop-up like a jack-in-the-box off of a one-count again, it'll be too soon.
