Would've meant more with a year-long Miz reign ending at WM33 by mystery opponent Nakamura.

Quick Prediction:

I think RAW wins the Elimination matches 2-1, and Smackdown gets its heat evened by winning the Cruiserweights and having a victorious Zayn defect to Smackdown.

Tough to decide who wins the first two SS matches, though. RAW wins the clincher with the men, but in guessing the other two I just have to go with who I think they want to protect. I think RAW takes the women - more star power with Jax getting a big rub. Smackdown wins the Tag match with Alpha getting the rub.

Wow, I know Joe and Rich didn't think Goldberg and Lesnar would be all that long but I don't think anyone expected that.

Fantastic.

Save for Reigns in a 5 minute window where they should have called an audible, no one on the main roster had anywhere close to the credibility needed to get that kind of reaction for beating Brock. He's been too big of a fish in too small a pond for a few years now. If Brock/Shane was (still is?) the plan for Wrestlemania, then it's always going to be that way and there's no need to keep the monster push going. Brock's not a huge numbers mover anyway. Not to the level of his push, anyway.

Plus the 10-year-old in me marked out like crazy.

Welp, I guessed literally every single match wrong. I'm owed some kind of special recognition in failure.

Outside of the SS Tag Match, I may be able to claim each match as "a pretty good match muddied by lame booking decisions." Elimination matches are the home of overbooking, and while they didn't kill any of their matches with their storytelling, they significantly wounded just about all of them. Kind of a thumbs-in-the-middle affair.

Props to the tag match though, which was the only match that succeeded without shooting its own foot off.

A Hollywood blockbuster of a show and what WWE clearly wants a Big 4 PPV to be. WWE is a post logic company in the main. So that is what we got.

This part I get.

The part I don't get is at what point so wrestling fans stop wanting to live out their childhood? I would love to see Hulk Hogan or HBK return to the ring just b/c they were huge parts of my childhood but do I want to see them be the top guys & going over future stars? No. Maybe I'm alone? I think I must be since so many people seemed to love what went down tonight.

Thank you for this valuable contribution in a WWE thread.

Enjoyed the PPV, the 5 on 5 match was long AF, and except for some of Shane's offense, was great. Shield reunion was a great moment, And I thought everyone was protected and no was was weaker.

I kind of wish Owens vs Jericho could have been a title match where Jericho is the veteran with one last chance for the title ala Flair/HHH from Raw, because with that crowd it would have been awesome.

A decade ago this weekend, wrestling fans overreacted to Kurt Angle defeating Samoa Joe. I see the same shit tonight with Goldberg defeating Brock Lesnar.

This is the benefit I have of opting to NOT watch WWE religiously during gridiron season, and just keep tabs at an arm's distance.

Hot take question:

How did the 20-man tag compare to the original from 1987?

Meltzer's rating back then: Strike Force, Young Stallions, British Bulldogs, Killer Bees, & Rougeau Bros. vs. Ax, Smash, Dino Bravo, Greg Valentine, Bolsheviks, The Islanders, & Hart Foundation (Tag Team Variation Survivor Series Style Elimination) ****

The Miz is beneath Nakamura, but it would shock me zero if that's how they would use him if/when he's called up, since they have no problem allowing a potential big time asset rot on the Florida loop.
