Jon Moxley on Jericho's Pod

Post by Ckkj14 » Wed May 29, 2019 12:57 pm

Feel like this is going to be the biggest news story this week in wrestling. Absolutely incredible listen. Cant see him ever returning there after this. Makes WWE sound like the absolute worst place to work and always has me incredibly excited for his run in AEW and other places as he sounds very passionate about wrestling. Must listen if you have the time

WWE would do cartwheels to have him and Punk back.

Big question is if it matters to the decision makers in WWE and if someone going on the record without the baggage Punk had will have an effect. Or if AEW takes off in the fall, will that be the shoe that needs to drop?

The podcast could not be clearer on that point. It is amazing how little anyone else, HHH especially, comes up. There are generally nameless faceless writers in this tale, but they just exist as extensions of Vince.

Being labeled as the goofy guy in WWE seems like a special kind of hell.

It is a different experience listening to this in the aftermath of the Punk/Cabana lawsuits. I want the good stuff while also hoping they don't say anything that's going to come back to get them. In that vein, it was smart not saying whatever the line was that he refused to say about Roman. At best, it would've devolved into a "we never asked him to say it"/"yes you did" argument that would've overshadowed everything else.

(but the line had to be something along the lines of Dean wishing the cancer would kill Roman, right? Refencing Komen seems like the tell.)

Edit: I forgot the thing I actually wanted to point out. Moxley talking about his arm injury reminded me that WWE totally could've extended his contract due to injury (like Harper/Mysterio) and dropped the ball in such a way where he could appear on AEW's first show. Maybe they did it because he's a bigger star to them, maybe they thought he was signing, maybe he would've walked out anyway given his mental attitude on this show, but what a screw-up.

The whole way they handled his leaving remains one of the most perplexing things they've ever done with a departing talent. It was, from a human perspective,a nicer way to let him leave. But, from a business perspective, it feels like a fuck up.

Don't wanna give Renee ANY additional temptation into filling the role at WarnerMedia that Rachel Nichols once had.

Speaking of, what perfect timing for her to walk in right when Mox revealed that scintillating Quad-Cities farewell payoff.

I don't get the Brock Lesnar stuff at all. What exactly is doing to cause problems? He just does what he's told, collects his checks and takes the deals they're willing to keep offering him.

Brock actually has legitimacy and carries himself like a star. You can"t say the same about most wrestlers today in and out of WWE.

It's going to be so funny when the time comes and AEW makes a big play to sign Lesnar. I wonder what Moxley will think then.

I could totally see why Moxley would be negative towards Brock, since Brock has stood between his friend Roman and the top of the promotion.

Also, Ambrose had had that terrible WrestleMania match against Brock.

He talked very negatively about that match on the Austin pod. Brock had a ufc fight coming up and wanted to do nothing

His Mania match with Brock came right after he was probably at one of his peaks and he was built up between his match with Triple H (a much better match than Hunter's match at Mania) and some rub from Mick Foley in the lead up. And then, the match was nothing. Who knows if it was Brock's fault or not, but I do see that as a legitimate reason for him to be pissed.

I think one thing that the interview reminded me of is that wrestlers characters tend to work best when they are extensions of their natural personas. Moxley’s natural character seems to be a down to earth guy who wants to show he’s the best in the ring and tell it how it is on the mic.

Vince it seems spent years trying to knock the square peg into a round hole until Moxley said “I don’t fit here”, and he was clear in the podcast that he was out of WWE whether AEW existed or not. It is serendipity that AEW was getting off the ground and with a little creative collaboration with a film producer and AEW booking he put himself over convincingly in one fell swoop.

While I haven't gotten far enough into it to really have gotten anything meaningful out of it yet...I will say that him having to count down from however many Raws he had left struck an emotional cord with me. Everyone has that moment where they finally can put their notice in for some shitty job they don't like...but imagine making the cash he was making there and STILL having to make that countdown. It's something plenty of people go through, and I'm sure he wouldn't want any sympathy for it, but it doesn't mitigate the impact of that statement. A good humanizing moment on the show.
