NWA World Championship Wrestling on WWE Network
Re: NWA World Championship Wrestling on WWE Network
The best part of starrcade 85 is the butcher's entrance. The fan who grabs the head dress gets his ass kicked. Roman would be more over today if he beat the shit out of the fans on his way to the ring just like Abby.

My word, I can't keep up! I'm almost done with 85 and have been watching at least two episodes per night.

Not to rain on the positivity parade, but while the weekly show was great, they put on one of the worst booked PPVs ever in Starrcade '87. This is one of those shows that had so much crappy booking, it would be killed on the net today. To whit, you have:
-A time limit draw opener
-A completely botched invasion angle
-A gimmick match repeated to lesser effect
-A Dusty finish screwing over the hometown team which was immediately followed by
-The booker winning in a shady manner one match after there was a dq for a far less egregious transgression
-A main event with a lame duck champion and the crowd almost uniformly cheering the heel.
The best thing to happen to Crockett in '87 may have been Vince screwing them over with Survivor Series as this show got seen live by so few they got a second chance to make a first impression on PPV.

The booking was always complete dog shit, and heels always dominated. It was the "smarky" promotion, but at the same time a big reason the heels were always cheered was because of how they were booked.mlev76 wrote:Not to rain on the positivity parade, but while the weekly show was great, they put on one of the worst booked PPVs ever in Starrcade '87. My girlfriend said Jim Crockett, Jr looks like Mr Burn's son. I think she's on to something.
