NWA Classics 24/7

What has everyone's experience been with the service? Is it worthwhile or not? I'm trying to decide whether or not to subscribe.

There has been some talk about aspect ratios and other technical stuff but the generally consensus seems to be that if you enjoy older wrestling footage, many of which was never seen before, it is a great buy.

I would recommend the interview Bruce Tharpe did with Titans of Wrestling and Phil Schneider's reviews where he is giving a dollar amount to each match on the segunda caida blog.

It's a little hard to tell from the website... Is there any context or timeline for the matches that are posted, or is it just an interesting mix of disconnected matches?

Pretty much as of now, just an interesting mix and no full cards from start to finish. People have been compiling dates for the matches where that is spotty on NWA Classics website.

André the Giant v. Tank Patton [Best 2-out-of-3 Falls]:

Fun match. It’s worked smartly and it’s always entertaining to see a mobile André. André exerts his size and bullies Patton around, who gets himself disqualified on the first fall after resorting to assaulting André with the cast on his wrist. André unleashes hell on Patton in the second go-around and Patton flees the ring, losing the second fall by count-out. Rating: **¼

Barry Orton v. “Leaping” Lanny Poffo:

Good match. Lanny initially overwhelms Orton with his athleticism by reversing all of his offense into arm drags and specifically targets the left arm as he does so. Orton adjusts, cutting him off and has himself an excellent heat segment, cockily targeting Lanny’s left arm in retaliation while drawing the crowds ire by resorting to pulling his hair. Referee catches him after the third hair pull-down, causing a break, and Lanny has a fiery babyface comeback which the crowd erupts for. It’s Lanny’s aerial tendencies that do him in as he lands stomach first onto Orton’s knees on a off-the-ropes splash attempt and is subsequently hit with a shoulder breaker for the three count. Rating: ***½

Guerreros v. Ted DiBiase & ‘Dr. Death’ Steve Williams [Bandolero Death Match]:

Fun brawl. "Bandolero Death Match" essentially means "Bandolero-on-a-Pole" match. Most of the storytelling is centered around retrieving the Bandolero to use as a weapon, which I personally don't find compelling at all, but these two teams go all out and elevate a dull stipulation enough for me to care. DiBiase & Williams (bully heels) and the Guerreros (spirited, underdog babyfaces) play their role to perfection. Guerreros defeat the Mid-South tag team champions after nailing DiBiase with a Bandolero-assisted Lariat. Crowd brings this match up a notch or two. Shaving a few minutes off the match could’ve improved this since the climbing/getting pulled down shtick got excessive at times. Rating: ***

PWO does a really great job of reviewing stuff, and putting dates to things.
