Fire Pro Podcast: THE THREAD!

Post by br26 » Tue Sep 29, 2015 10:16 am

http://firepropodcast.podbean.com/

I'll just make a thread here and post new episodes when need be. Would love to hear feedback so let us know what you think! In case you haven't listened to our show, me (Bryan Rose) Dan Ford (Smarch on F4W boards) and Brad Ritcey (also F4W boards) talk about pro wrestling, surprisingly. Not so much current stuff, though we do cover that on occasion, but more about general things we like in pro wrestling, such as video games, the Hall of Fame, WCW 2000 (well okay, we don't like that but it's fun to look back on) and more. It's always a good time when us three are talking about pro wrestling in general so our show's worth getting a look-see at the very least!

Fire Pro Podcast #5: Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame 2015 Discussion!

September 28, 2015
We made it to our fifth episode! Finally! After a week off due to scheduling and technical issues we're back, and what a topic as we go for 2 hours and 30 minutes on the Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame! We cover every category to the best of our ability (sorry in advance for those into Mexico) as we go over who should be in and who shouldn't be big. Big topics of discussion include Big Daddy and Sting (just like every year!) Mr. Wrestling, Junkyard Dog, Daniel Bryan, Shinsuke Nakamura, CM Punk, Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, Jun Akiyama, Mark "Rollerball" Rocco, Jim Crockett Jr. and Sr., Mean Gene Okerlund, Dave Brown, Jimmy Hart and a whole lot more. A fascinating episode that you must check out, especially if you're a voter as it may just change your mind on a pick or two!

Intro and talk about the WON Hall of Fame

Historical candidates (07:45)

Modern candidates (21:42)

Japan (1:05)

Mexico (1:27)

European (1:31)

Australia (1:44)

Nah, this isn't a comprehensive look at Bound for Glory 2015, which is set to air right as this episode is published, but we do talk about it for a bit! While we were due to talk about the N64/PSX era of wrestling video games we'll hold that off for next week so we'll be better prepared (WCW Backstage Assault isn't going to play itself, you know). Instead it's a news heavy episode as we talk about WWE at Madison Square Garden, Kane and Big Show as the two big main event stars of 2015 that everyone is tired of, the Eric Bischoff interviews with JBL and why they ALWAYS tell the same story about the day DX invaded WCW, WWE ratings woes (or are they woes?) as well as, yeah, TNA talk and a half-hearted look at Bound for Glory 2015 as we predict if TNA can survive another year and another cancelled TV deal. All this and more this week on the second most popular thing on the internet next to the Shera Shuffle, the Fire Pro Podcast!

Part II of our look at pro wrestling video games is here, focusing on the N64 and PSX era of gaming! We had some audio issues throughout the show (DAN) but hopefully it's not too noticeable here. We first take a look at the WCW games of the late nineties- Nitro and Thunder, Mayhem, and Backstage Assault, with Brad giving us his ideas of why WCW Thunder was the best representation of WCW during that time period. We move on to the Acclaim WWF games, War Zone and Attitude, and how they were pretty good for their time, but they don't hold up all that much years later. We also briefly talk about WWF Royal Rumble and the death of the arcade scene, as well as WWF Betrayal, a beat 'em up where you and your rival fight on top of Titan Towers for the WWF championship. Oh, and Stephanie gets kidnapped or something. ANYWAY, we then finally talk about the AKI games, including WCW/nWo Revenge, World Tour/WCW vs. The World, Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 and yes, Wrestlemania 2000 and WWF No Mercy, with Brad having some interesting opinions on the game. All this and much more this week on the Fire Pro Podcast!

For the next two hours, prepare yourself for some of the best wrestling music to ever feast on your ears as Dan, Bryan and Brad talk about their favorite wrestling theme songs, not only from WWE but also WCW (Slam Jam Album!), ECW, a bit of Mexico, Japan, and in the territories. From the list of categories below, each of us have chosen a favorite theme song and we'll talk about why we like it so much. Next week we'll have Part II, our "B section" if you will, where we'll talk about the worst theme songs, plus our FAVORITE THEME SONG OF ALL TIME. Two exciting weeks of music talk and it starts today here on the Fire Pro Podcast!

Last week on the FPP we talked about our favorite music in professional wrestling. This week, it's pretty much the worst, BUT HEY, we also have our favorite themes of all time in here as well! We talk about various pro wrestling themes, including Terry Funk cutting an album in Japan, Macho Man telling Hulk Hogan to Be a Man, different views on what "Most Inappropriate Theme Song" actually means, John Cena's not so bad but now kind of forgotten rap album, What the hell was Billy Kidman's theme, and if Vince McMahon really sung Shawn Michaels' song on WWF Metal: The Album or not. All that and much more, including controversial statements on not only Vince McMahon but also even Mitsuharu Misawa, this week on the Fire Pro Podcast!

This week is all about the news as Dan, Bryan and Brad talk about a newsworthy week. We first talk about Seth Rollins' injury and the repercussions it has for WWE. With no top heel, who does WWE go with to fill that void? We talk about all the different possibilities, from Kevin Owens to even the Big Show. We then get to Bellator and their crazy match announcements, as well as the Rizin show that'll be airing New Years Eve. There's so many pro wrestling names here it's nuts. Does anyone really want to see Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie in 2016? If the Bellator numbers are real, well...yeah! We then close the show off with our look at the Hall of Fame results. Who do we agree with, who didn't get in that we're shocked by, and who do we feel has a shot of getting in? All of that is questioned AND answered this week on the FPP!

The twelfth episode of the Fire Pro Podcast is in the books, and boy do we have a lot to cover! We first talk about Fallout (you know, that tiny arthouse indie video game that came out this week) then after some talk on casual wrestling fans (and crappy wrestling t-shirts) we talk about the fall of Ronda Rousey. Was it too much, too soon? What exactly happened during the fight, and is there a chance Rousey will be able to win the rematch, let alone ever really be the same again? We then finish off with Spring Stampede 2000, a miserable show featuring 14 matches, with only one going more than ten minutes. Yes, it’s only going to get worse from here, which is why we’re probably going with a monthly format with these WCW reviews going forward. No one said it was going to be easy!

It’s the lucky (or maybe unlucky?) thirteenth episode of the Fire Pro Podcast, and this week it’s another news show! YAY! Granted, this was a huge week, so we kind of had to talk about all the big news that’s gone on this week. We first talk about TNA moving to the Pop Network, which apparently what we’ve been told runs marathons of the 1992 classic The Bodyguard all day on 40% of the screen while the other 60% runs the guide. A very big step for TNA indeed. We move on to Survivor Series, with most of the discussion being centered around the WWE title situation. Who will walk away from the show with the gold? And after a discussion on some of the lamest runs and eras in WWE history, we go to the Tenryu retirement show, featuring old guys being immobile, old guys being awesome, indy guys with a lot of facepaint and so much more. We’ll finally cap it off with the news of La Sombra’s signing with the WWE and how he can not become the next Sin Cara. It’s actually pretty easy if you think about it. All this and more this week on the FPP!

Episode 13 of the FPP features some Survivor Series 2015 fallout discussion. Just how bad was the Sheamus cash in? How long are we all taking breaks when it comes to WWE programing? What made Starrcade 1984 so boring? Somehow we manage to talk all about it in our first segment. Following that it’s the third (and perhaps final?) edition of Video Game Mania here on the Fire Pro Podcast! We talk about the last two generations of wrestling video games, dating back to the Gamecube/PS2/Xbox era to the 360/Wii/PS3 era. We first talk about the Def Jam and Ultimate Muscle games that were developed by Aki. What made them different than, say, No Mercy? We move on to the WWE Gamecube games, why X8 sucked, the weird Revenge mode in XIX and Day of Reckoning’s storylines that involved you hooking up with Stacy Keibler BUT being accused of stealing the World Heavyweight title so it’s a mixed bag. We move on to the Xbox games, including the weird original Raw game, the uninteresting sequel, and Wrestlemania 21, which featured an incredible sweat engine. We also talk about Rumble Roses, a looong Legends of Wrestling discussion and the doom of Acclaim, Fire Pro Wrestling Returns, which may be one of the best wrestling games of all time, and cap it off with Fire Pro Wrestling for Xbox 360 and TNA Impact, two games which I’m pretty sure are not the greatest wrestling games of all time. Tons of stuff we talked about this week only on the Fire Pro Podcast!

It’s more WCW talk this week on the Fire Pro Podcast! But before we get to that, we talk about all the new additions to the WWE Network - Stampede Wrestling, Smoky Mountain Wrestling, even Global Wrestling Federation footage has been uploaded to the network, and we’ve been amazed all week on just how fun wrestling actually used to be in North America 20-30 years ago! While some of it hasn’t aged well, some is just as good as it ever was and we talk about what we liked, what we think didn’t work, and what we would like to see come up on the Network next. And after a brief discussion on the very first TNA PPV and the weird Konami/Hideo Kojima dynamic, we talk about WCW Slamboree 2000! A way better show than Spring Stampede, but when we say that we mean it’s marginally bad as opposed to totally awful. There’s some great work on this show, but lots of brawling, weapons, and a lame cage match with a really bad ending when you consider where the show was held at. All that and much more this week on the FPP!

It’s award season here at the Fire Pro Podcast! But since it’s a Sunday morning, we have to talk about the fallout from last night’s UFC 194 show where Conor McGregor laid out Jose Aldo with one punch to become the undisputed featherweight champion. What does the future hold for him and the UFC? We then go into the real topic of today’s show, the B section of the Wrestling Observer Awards! While we do say nice things about our favorite books and documentaries of the year, a lot of the show is, shockingly, about WWE’s dire creative straights. But we do touch on a number of other subjects including the doom of TripleMania and AAA as a whole, how on Earth is TNA still existing, Bray Wyatt, Dana White, Vince McMahon, Roman Reigns, why everyone in WWE is forced to work and talk the same, New Day, New Japan and their problems (which are only growing) and much more. Next week is the A section awards so we promise to be a bit more happy about our selections!

It’s a new era for Fire Pro Podcast as this is our first episode here on the Wrestling With Words website! After some discussion about the Trailer Park Boys for reasons I (Bryan) have yet to find, we go on to talk about Roman Reigns’ title win and where they go from here. Is it smooth sailing towards WrestleMania, or will more problems emerge? At the end of the day, it’s all about WWE doing the right thing with Reigns…which, given this year, is kind of a very hard thing for them to do. We follow that up with Part II of our look at the Observer Awards! Last week, we talked about all the Category B awards, so this week we talk about half of the Category A awards . We talk about everyone and everything including Cesaro, Matt Striker, Jon Jones, Daniel Cormier, Robbie Lawlor, Rory MacDonald, Conor McGregor, Meisha Tate, JBL, Big Show and Kane, Dario Cuerto, NXT, Lucha Underground and so much more. If you want to hear about our big picks of the year, including Wrestler of the Year, tune in next week as we’ll finish off the rest of the Observer awards. All this here on the Fire Pro Podcast (or, if Brad has his way, the Meisha Tate Podcast)!

Fire Pro Podcast returns one last time in 2015 as we wrap up our look at this year's Observer Awards. After some talk about weight cutting and the return of Vince McMahon on Raw, we go into them one by one, starting with best match of the year. Our topics range everywhere from Tomohiro Ishii to AJ Styles, Paul Heyman to Conor McGregor, and a long discussion about Stephanie McMahon's promos and whether or not they are actually beneficial to the product. We of course close out with the biggest award of the year, the Lou Thesz/Ric Flair award (that will not, in fact, go to Ric Flair or Lou Thesz). Who was the best overall wrestler this year? You'll find out our picks by listening in!

Strangely, episode 18 doesn't show up on my feed, although it is on the wrestlingwithwords.com/podcast/feed/. Everything posted before and after displays perfectly.
