Re: Pro Wrestling hot stove
Or maybe they didn't ask for their release and it was just Meltzer being a dumbass and coming up with stories for clicks.

I think anyone with half a brain who has a contract coming up soon should ask for a release. Whether you are serious about it or not, you have to play the game. These two were obviously playing the game, there was no interest from the only groups WWE cares about having interest. But by asking for release instead of waiting until the contract expires you give the illusion there's interest and it turns into a game of chicken. That's why the people who are serious about leaving will just let their contract expire quietly & others will let the company know they are thinking of leaving to leverage themselves deals better than the raises that have already been offered.
You gotta cash in now, not later. As AEW keeps signing up guys there will be a limit. They are not going to sign every single person who leaves & are clearly keeping a couple roster spots open for people in non-WWE groups who have soon to be expiring deals. WWE is not dumb... once they see AEW has slowed down on signing people - the leverage of every single wrestler in WWE barring the top names goes way down because there's less of a threat they end up where WWE doesn't want them.
It's all really fascinating to watch play out. The big money guy will eventually be the person who goes from AEW to WWE (whether new guy or returning guy) because you just know WWE is chomping at the bit to show someone chose them over the new game in town. Even a guy like Marty Scurll could play this masterfully if he wants since everyone has made the assumption he's all but AEW bound when his contract is up.

This is a pretty spot on analysis. I think a lot of the folks whispering in Meltzer's ears about leaving are probably playing this game right now.RobViper13 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 4:49 amI think anyone with half a brain who has a contract coming up soon should ask for a release. Re: Pro Wrestling hot stove
WWE isnt going to lose anyone that doesnt already have their mind up, because they don't like the optics of people leaving, and they have more than enough money to make it worth your while to stay. As noted above, the Kanellis's aren't exactly hot commodities (ROH maybe wouldve made sense, to do something with Taven), and neither is someone like Mojo Rawley. People at that level would be nuts to not take big six figure per year multi year deals. As noted elsewhere, this is the luckiest time for your deal to be coming due. WWE will pay up, and if you do choose to walk for lifestyle or other reasons, it's almost impossible to not land on your feet, where as in the recent past you could end up having a lot of problems making money in wrestling outside the system.

I'd even imagine some talent are more than happy to get paid a good wage and only have to work 5 minute matches on Main Event every week.Joe Lanza wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2019 3:16 pmWWE isnt going to lose anyone that doesnt already have their mind up, because they don't like the optics of people leaving, and they have more than enough money to make it worth your while to stay. Re: Pro Wrestling hot stove
Dave has been pushing Mojo to leave and make a name elsewhere for awhile now. That tells me he did have other options.
Re: Pro Wrestling hot stove
Absolutely. And as Mojos name has been mentioned I actually think he has some potential to be somethingJoe Lanza wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2019 7:12 pmAnd good on them if so.Ckkj14 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2019 3:59 pmI'd even imagine some talent are more than happy to get paid a good wage and only have to work 5 minute matches on Main Event every week.Joe Lanza wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2019 3:16 pmWWE isnt going to lose anyone that doesnt already have their mind up, because they don't like the optics of people leaving, and they have more than enough money to make it worth your while to stay. Regardig the Tozawa rumors, I guess it is possible his deal is up ans he's done. However, i should also point out that TJP mentioned in a recent interview that the cruiserweights first signed NXT style contracts coming out the CWC, but then the company had them sign new main roster contracts shortly after WM 33.

Tozawa was also booked for Evolve in Philly next month.
If his 3 year deal is up now and he's gone wouldn't you think there would also be talk regarding the contracts of other cruisers like Metalik, Lince, Kendrick, Gallagher and Cedric?

So his deal is up soon and he's looking to leave, yet he takes a leave of absence that could end freezing his contract? What sense does this make?

Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports Joey Mercury and Ring of Honor have split ways. Mercury was working as a trainer at the ROH Dojo, along with being part of the creative team and helping out as a producer backstage. Mercury was reportedly removed from his positions this week with his removal being a "mutually agreed upon decision" following ROH's recent Honor United tour in the UK.
Mercury has a non-compete clause, though it was not specified when that ends. Mercury joined ROH in May 2018 as a trainer for the Baltimore Dojo. He began working as a producer and creative team member in February 2019.
